Duty
You will be responsible for the long-term storage of forest inventory data collected within the framework of various research projects, mainly focusing on data gathered within the framework of the projects ”Experimental Forest Management“ and ”Forest Reserve Research”. You develop and maintain spatial and relational databases (PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and tools for data management. Working in a small team, you will be involved in all steps of data processing from providing data for field surveys, storing data in a database and preparing the data for evaluation. A central task of this versatile position is to ensure the connection of the different user groups especially the field teams and researchers with the database and the management of the data quality. The development of standard routines for data evaluation and the support of project specific analyses are further activities in this position.
Requirement
You hold a Master’s degree in natural or environmental sciences, geography or computer science. You are familiar with the management of large data sets and PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases, have experience in working with spatial datasets and are familiar with R and Python. Knowledge of Java is an asset. Conceptual skills, a flair for implementation, as well as an interest in our research questions (forest growth, forest monitoring, forest dynamics) are expected. You are a reliable person, work well in a team, have a structured working style and enjoy solving problems in data management together with natural scientists. Good knowledge in German and English are also required.
