The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF is part of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL and thus of the ETH Domain. WSL focuses on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards. WSL employs approximately 600 people, of whom 140 work at SLF in Davos.
PostDoc Snow Hydrology (80% - 100%)

The Research Group Snow Hydrology i
nvestigates the dynamics of snow water resources and snowmelt in alpine watersheds. To complete our snow hydrology research team we offer a two-year position starting on November 2021

Duty

You will work at the modeling interface of atmosphere and snow. You will support the development of a fully coupled model system between the high-resolution atmospheric research model HICAR (High-resolution Intermediate Complexity Atmospheric Research Model) and the physically based snow cover model FSM (Flexible Snow Model). In addition to development of the model, you will also support its integration into the forecasting system of the SLF’s operational snow hydrological service. This setup will allow you to model high-resolution meteorological fields in the highly complex terrain of the Alps to study atmosphere - snow cover feedbacks. Your work will provide valuable inputs to the WSL research program Climate change impacts on alpine mass movements (CCAMM II).

Requirement

You hold a university degree in environmental physics or in a similar field, as well as a PhD on a relevant subject. Expertise in the use of spatially-distributed atmospheric and/or snow models is essential, and prior contribution to the development of such models is desirable. You appreciate working as part of a motivated team that operates at the interface between science and practice.

Please send your complete application until 15 September 2021 to Jasmine Zimmermann, Human Resources SLF, by uploading the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered. Dr. Rebecca Mott, E- Mail mott@slf.ch , will be happy to answer any questions or offer further information. The WSL strives to increase the proportion of women in its employment, which is why qualified women are particularly called upon to apply for this position.
