Scientific Coordinator and Data Analyst for Biodiversity Research (80-100%)

The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is a part of the ETH domain. Approximately 500 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards. The Research Unit Biodiversity and Conservation Biology studies the diversity of life in its various forms, from genetic diversity to the diversity of species and ecosystems as well as their interactions. For our new WSL Biodiversity Centre we offer for 2 years (with option for extension) a position as
Duty
We offer an interesting and versatile workplace in a diversified and international research environment. You will act both as manager of activities of the WSL biodiversity center and as a support scientist for collaborative research. You will support analyses and modeling needs from the Centre’s workshops (i.e. innovations workshops and working groups, international excellence workshop), especially those with big data requiring advanced computational skills. You will provide logistical and management support for the main activities hosted by the Biodiversity Centre. You will be responsible for the networking across existing activities, groups, units and programs within WSL and internationally, and you will identify opportunities for interactions between WSL researchers and practitioners. You will work closely with the Director and the steering committee of the WSL Biodiversity Centre to foster research and outreach excellence. Furthermore, you will contribute to manuscript and proposal writing associated with Centre activities.
Requirement

You have a Master’s degree or PhD in biology, ecology, environmental sciences, or in a related field and several years of experience working in scientific teams. You have proven skills in networking, coordination and organizing teams of scientists. Your communication skills are strong and you are fluent in English and (at least) one national language of Switzerland (GE, FR, IT). You are experienced in biodiversity research, community ecology and conservation. You have strong quantitative skills for modelling and analysing biodiversity data (preferably R) and you are experienced with managing joint datasets and coding for cluster computer systems. Finally, you have proven experience in writing scientific articles and producing outreach publications. You are used to work with precision and perseverance and you appreciate the cooperation with an international and dynamic research team.
