Post-Doc BGB2020 Community or Macro-Ecology (80-100%)

The Blue-Green Biodiversity 2020 is a new initiative between WSL and eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology). Please find more information on our homepage at: press release BGB2020 In the framework of this Project within the research unit ‘‘Forest Health and Biotic Interactions’’ and research group “Forest Entomology” of WSL, we are searching for one year (possibility of extension), with a start between August and October 2020, a
Aufgaben
You will assess the consequences of human impacts on spatial β-diversity patterns (turnover and loss of species and functions) for multiple taxa along land-use gradients in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. You will evaluate the relative role of land use as a driver of taxonomic and functional homogenization (loss of β-diversity) across different spatial scales, paying particular attention to the underlying mechanisms. With a passion for understanding patterns and drivers of β-diversity, the successful applicant will be based at WSL, advised by Martin Gossner, but will join an interdisciplinary team including spread over several institutions, including co-PI Florian Altermatt from eawag, Dübendorf.
Anforderung

You have a PhD in biology or environmental sciences with a strong background in community ecology, data management and statistical analyses. Ideally, you will be familiar with taxonomic and functional β-diversity analyses (e.g. Bayesian GDMs, β-diversity partitioning) and have experience with large datasets. Furthermore, you have a good command of English and a demonstrated ability to write scientific papers. You are very ambitious and motivated, used to a high standard of independent, structured and careful work, and demonstrate a high level of team spirit.

Please submit your complete application online to Susanne Jost, Human Resources WSL, by uploading the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered. For further information, contact Martin Gossner, martin.gossner(at)wsl.ch or Florian Altermatt, florian.altermatt(at)eawag.ch. The evaluation process will start in July 2020, but the position will remain open until filled. WSL strives to increase the proportion of women in its employment, which is why qualified women are particularly called upon to apply for this position.
