The Sandec Department (Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development) at Eawag is currently looking to fill the position for a new project on Solid Waste Management and Waste Segregation in Low- and Middle-Income Settings
Duty
We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified individual to work on diverse collaborative research projects on solid waste management, together with our partners in low- and middle-income countries. Two main themes are currently in the focus of our research:

a) Waste segregation: this first step to foster recycling and a circular economy still requires a better understanding of barriers and opportunities based on research evidence, to propose suitable measures for interventions by practitioners;

b) Developing and validating assessment and evaluation methodologies as a step in solid waste management planning under an integrated framework.

Responsibilities
• Coordinate and conduct applied research to develop knowledge and evidence on behavioural factors influencing households and non-households to segregate waste at the point of generation.
• Develop a toolbox for solid waste assessment and technology alternatives evaluations.
• Contribute to the development and validation of an integrated planning approach which besides solid waste also includes water, sanitation, energy and food sectors
• Develop and pursue new collaborations with research and implementation partners
• Communicate with stakeholders and project collaborators
• Develop proposals for externally funded research
• Manage budget, operational and financial reports

Requirements
• A graduate degree (MSc) in environmental sciences or engineering, or related field
• Experience in low- and middle-income countries
• Excellent communication and project management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English
• Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable

This position is targeted towards a junior staff member.
