The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF is part of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL and thus of the ETH Domain. WSL focuses on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards. WSL employs approximately 600 people, of whom 140 work at SLF in Davos.
PostDoc Engineering Geology / Geotechnics (80-100%)

As part of the new research centre "Climate Change, Extreme Events and Natural Hazards in Mountain Areas - CERC", which was founded as part of the SLF in Davos, we are looking for two years for a
Duty
Within the framework of the WSL programme CCAMM you will investigate the dynamics of the rock instability in the permafrost above Kandersteg. For this purpose, you will have access to an extensive geodetic data set on rock kinematics. Furthermore, temperature and hydrostatic pressure data will be available, as well as geophysical investigations. You will also carry out geotechnical laboratory tests with rock samples from the study area. Finally, these data are to be combined in a thermo-mechanical model. You will work in close collaboration with the Permafrost Research Group and in interdisciplinary exchange with other teams. You will publish the results of your work in international journals and present them at national and international conferences.
Requirement

You have a doctorate in engineering geology or geotechnics and experience in the analysis of large slope instabilities. You are familiar with the application of rock mechanics models and are able to combine large, multi-dimensional data sets from different sources. If necessary, you will design individual solutions and implement them in existing models. You have a very good command of written and spoken English, and knowledge of a Swiss national language is an advantage.

Please send your complete application to Clemens Güdel, Human Resources WSL/SLF, by uploading the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered.
