Post-Doc BGB2020 Conservation Biology (80-100%)


The Blue-Green Biodiversity 2020 is a new initiative between WSL and eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology). Duty
You will assess how well the ecological infrastructure constructed by the Swiss canton Aargau serves its intended purpose of amphibian conservation by focusing on colonization of new ponds by amphibian species and relate colonization success to characteristics of the ponds and the surrounding landscape. You will further focus on time lags in a species’ response to conservation actions (immigration credit). You will use a unique long-term data set on amphibian occurences in old and newly created ponds. With a passion for scientific understanding of biodiversity to join an interdisciplinary team spread over several institutions, the successful applicant will be based in the research group at WSL in Birmensdorf, but will work in collaboration with Christoph Vorburger (Eawag), Rolf Holderegger (WSL), Benedikt Schmidt (info fauna karch), and Simon Egger (Canton Aargau).
Requirement

You have acquired a PhD in biology, or environmental sciences, with a strong background in conservation biology and statistical analyses (preferably R and JAGS). Ideally, you will be familiar with occupancy models and have experience with landscape analyses using GIS. Furthermore, you have a good command of English and preferably German and a demonstrated ability to write scientific papers. You are very ambitious and motivated, used to a high standard of independent, structured, and careful work, and demonstrate a high level of team spirit.
